Freestyle.ch is the largest freestyle sport event in Europe. On the Landiwiese in Zürich the world’s best snowboarders, freeskiers, FMXers, skateboarders and mountain bikers demonstrate the most daring tricks, flips and jumps while attempting to bring home one of the honored titles of freestyle.champ and crossover.champ. It’s pure action, but also a huge meet-and-greet: the international freestyle community gets together at freestyle.ch.
50 of the world’s best snowboarders, freeskiers, mountain bikers and freestyle motocross riders will fight for fame, honor and the favor of the crowd.
The contest schedule includes four different disciplines: snowboard, freeski, FMX and MTB. In the Big Air Contest winter sports athletes will compete on a ramp specifically designed for the 20th anniversary of the event. The FMX and MTB athletes will face each other in the Dirt Jump Contest.
Unlike other events of this kind all disciplines are held in a single arena. The eventis international meeting point for fans, athletes and sports industry. Unlike the X Games , the top European athletes get more space in the field of participants. There are however also many American and Canadian athletes. For all four disciplines, a total of $ 120,000 in prize money is available.
The event has run since 1995 (then as Nescafé Zuri line ) and takes place each year in September. now the event expects more than 100,000 visitors and is seen in over 160 countries on television. In 2004 the event had to be terminated after the first day because the big air snow ramp collapsed however no one was injured. The event was free until 2005 when it became paid for. Pehaps an indication of the commercial character of the event is on the one hand, but on the other hand, suggesting also an increased understanding of security and planning needed and the associated costs.
