I live in Australia where we have pretty poor quality snow and short skiing seasons which come and go quite quickly. For quite some time I have been thinking on how I could emulate skiing without snow. I first checked probably everything that has been invented in this space from rolling tread based grass ski through roller ski, Harb carvers to crosskates etc. but none of these really behave like carving skis and can be easily controlled by an average skier. I finally came up with a device that can carve on dry surface and have been asking skiers in dfferent forums what they think about the idea. This brief video below shot on the day my gear was made shows how it works. I was going rather slow to get some feeling of its dynamics but it was quite stable and easy to control the speed.

The front and rear wheels turn in sync on tipping on the edge and the turning radius can be as short as 1.5m (6feet). Please let me know what you think. If you have seen my postings in some other forum and have not commented yet this is your chance Laughing

OMG!!! How cool is this and would be amazing just for keeping up the ski fitness while away from the mountains - I love it!!!! If you want anyone to try them out count me in please!

Unfortunately this is the only pair in existence. Apart from the fun going downhill it keeps me fit skate skiing uphill. I am hoping to have bigger 6" wheels fitted tomorrow and if it gets done I will try them on a softer surface and steeper slope.

After a few improvements including larger pneumatic wheels it is becoming more and more like skiing and more fun than I've ever expected. Now the only challenge is to get ski lifts open in summer. Check this out

Hey there, yes it is looking good please persist with this idea because I think you have something really good there, something that will be a great exercise work out and keep the ski legs working during the summer.

Another episode, this time racing with cars Wink. I was trying to stay in my lane and had to do very tight turns.

Finally a better device and better skier riding down the main resort road at Falls Creek. Mitch, who is a freestyle coach, said that it felt like carving on perfectly groomed snow. It really is a good workout that according to him employs the same group of muscles that the real thing does.
