Winter Olympic roadshow and British Ski and Snowboard Championships at Chill Factore on 28 and 29 September

In just over a week skiers and snowboarders from around the country will be taking to the slopes of the Chill Factore to battle it out in the Indoor British Alpine Championships and the British Skier and Boardercross Championships.

On Saturday 28 September and Sunday 29 September, the best up and coming skiers and snowboarders in the country will head to Manchester to show off their skills. But this is not just a weekend for the stars, it is also the chance for the public to come along to watch the action and meet our future Olympians as the Championships combines for the first time with an Olympic themed Slide2Sochi roadshow.

Over the weekend, as well as two full days of action, there will be the chance to meet members of the Great Britain ski and snowboard team including Sochi 2014 hopefuls slopestyle snowboarder Katie Ormerod and mogul skier Ellie Koyander, local GB junior snowboarder Tomski Robinson, halfpipe skier Rob Machon, and promising Alpine ski racer Nick Moynihan.

With less than six months to go until the Games, the weekend will be buzzing with Olympic fever. Alongside the skiing and snowboarding, members of the British Bobsleigh team will be there to impress the crowds with their bulging muscles and red, white and blue bobsleigh. There will be the chance to sit in the bobsleigh and also write Olympic good luck messages on the giant Slide2Sochi snowball which is touring the country and needs as many messages as possible before it eventually makes its way to Sochi.

GB Freeski Coach Pat Sharples said of the event: “It’s so great to see the British Ski & Snowboard Championships come to Manchester this year as the hype around wintersports leading up to Sochi is getting more and more exciting by the day. This will be a great place for the younger generation of riders, potentially our next Olympic stars, to show their skills to the public and inspire the next generation of skiers and snowboarders.”

Morwenna Angove CEO of ChillFactore said: "We’re delighted Chill Factore is hosting the Indoor British Alpine Championships and the British Skier & Boardercross Championships. It marks Chill Factore as the world-class facility that we all know it is. The events will attract many wintersports enthusiasts over the weekend and of course we’d encourage the public to come down to meet some of the young athletes as well as watch many of the top exponents of alpine sports show off their incredible skills.”

There will also be the chance to find out more about getting into skiing and snowboarding, alpine racing, skier and boarder cross as well as freestyle. Learn more about Snowsport England’s new national participation campaign GO SKI GO BOARD, and also the Ski Club of Manchester, Pendle Snowsports Club and Northern Freestyle Club.

The Slide2Sochi Roadshow and Indoor British Alpine Championships start at 8am until 5.30pm on Saturday 28 September and the Slide2Sochi Roadshow and the British Skier and Boardercross Championships start at 8am until 5.30pm on Sunday 29 September.
