October powder in Big Sky!

September and October have been cool and damp in the Northern Rockies, and the snowpack is beginning to accumulate. Above 9000 feet (2700 metres) it is now 2-3 feet deep, making skiing possible - if you're careful, and don't use brand-new skis...
Yesterday (18th October) I was able to make some powder turns - some of the earliest I have made - in the Beehive Basin area, near Big Sky, Montana.

This augurs well for the start of the official ski season at Big Sky - 28th November 2013.
It will be an interesting season, as Big Sky has now taken over neighbouring Moonlight Basin, to create the largest single ski area in the USA (details).
