What’s new in Meribel....

So finally winter 12/13 is almost upon us, with the sun becoming but a faint memory in the UK and the first of this winters snow already on the ground in Meribel, our thoughts automatically drift to this upcoming season and its great many improvements. Meribel has been a busy resort over the summer months lots of improvements have been made to the slopes, lifts, and of course the eagerly awaited new big après-ski hot spot La Follie Douce, here’s a summary of what’s new for in Meribel for this upcoming season...

On the Piste: Remember the Marte Piste coming into Mottaret and the ever so tricky Mogul field? Well this year the slope is a lot gentler to keep the snow in better condition, and make it easier for beginners. There will be a separate Mogul slope heading into Mottaret too specifically for all you bump jumping dare devils! A gentle slope has been shaped heading into Meribel with the old Saulire lift pylons removed for safer easier arrivals into the Chaudanne.                                                                                                                          Higher up in Meribel the Grand Duc and Gelinotte runs are also undertaking improvements ready for the World Cup 2015 competition is due to take place, some of the work includes a new tunnel where the pistes cross. Hello speedy Saullire: As I am writing this the bottom half of the Saullire Express is being completed, what used to be a 20 minute lift ride to the top will now only take a whopping great 12 minutes lets face it.... less lift time = more ski time! Woop Woop! Plattieres 1 & 2 new shiny gondola: This year the old lift to the top of the Plattiers 2 has been replaced with a brand new 10 seater gondola. This is great news for anyone who has experienced the old lift, it will carry 40% more passengers and take a mere 9minutes compared to the previous 22 minutes to reach the top.                                                      Après Après Après! : Finally Meribel will boast a brand new restaurant/Après ski hot spot on the slopes the Follie Douce. This sister establishment to the existing hugely popular Follie Douce in Val D'Isere and Val Thoren is based just below the mid section of the Saullire Express, in place of the old Choucas restaurant. Meribel Après ski just gets better and better!

Look out for my next blog, I have been in contact with a number of bars in resort so will be listing opening nights and themed nights to pop in the diary! Including a birthday night with free Mutzig! Interested?..... I certainly am!
